Pre-K & Kindergarten

Children in this age group will constantly work on mastering developmental skills.  They are growing quickly both cognitively and physically.  To help four and five years old develop the many skills they are mastering, our program provides a compilation of activities that are effective, appealing, and interesting, and includes the following:

Physical Milestones

 

  • Cut on lines with scissors (not perfectly)
  • Establish hand dominance
  • Dress completely on own
  • Walk a balance beam
  • Catch a ball from three feet away

Cognitive Milestones

  • Sort objects by shape, size, color and form
  • Count to 20 & above, sometimes to 100
  • Relate times on a clock to daily schedules
  • Identify the letters of the alphabet, sometimes all lower and upper case
  • Recognize the values of coins and bills

 

Speech and Language Milestones

  • Tell familiar stories while looking at a book
  • Recognize humor and make up jokes and riddles
  • Create sentences with five to seven or more words
  • Use past-tense verbs

Personal And Social Developments Milestones

  • Share toys, take turns, play cooperatively, and be generous
  • Enjoy many friends and a few special playmates
  • Help with family and school chores
  • Demonstrate caring and affection with other children
  • Learn to control their emotions but still need adult assistance and reasurrance
